There are times when a resume objective might be helpful in clarifying the particular career path you are hoping to follow within an organization. One example of when this is useful is when the job seeker uses this section to explain they are applying for a particular position but hope to advance within the company. Knowing what to focus on resume objectives is the key.
Mentioning your aspirations is not considered a faux pas because it gives the potential employer a good understanding of where you intend to be in a few years. Armed with this information your potential employer will feel as though he knows more about you and can feel confident that you intend to stick around for quite some time. Although it is a good idea to have lofty aspirations within a company, this does not mean you should make it seem as though the position you are actually apply for is beneath you. Whenever you include a resume objective on your resume, it is always important to make sure this section is written specifically for the job you are pursuing.
Sure it is fine to have a standard resume objective which outlines the type of job you are seeking. However, with each resume you submit, you should take the time to tweak this objective at least slightly to make it clear that you understand the expectations of the job for which you are applying. Little details such as including the job title in the objective can help to accomplish this goal.
Finally, do not stress out too much about writing an objective because it is not even really necessary. More and more professionals in the job seeking industry are recommending that the objective is optional on a resume. This is because most job seekers do not take the time to really customize this section so prospective employers do not expect much from this section. In many cases, potential employers do not even read this section because they anticipate it will be generic.
