Recession Proof Jobs Are Great To Have

Not a day passes that we don’t learn about more layoffs, companies failing and rising numbers of unemployed. Students and employees are overwhelmed by the entire situation.  In this market, traditional employment is increasingly difficult to find.  Looking for a ‘perfect’ job seems virtually impossible. The reality is that jobs are available during a recession.

Some industries continue to perform strongly.  Others jobs, for one reason or another, perform better than before in this economy.  It is jobs in these career fields that will lead to future business and job opportunities. Let’s look at ways you can learn to recession proof yourself

What is the best way to plan your education that is right for you and will outlast a recession?  If you want a recession-proof career give your attention to jobs that remain stable regardless of the economy.  Retail and entertainment may experience economic slumps, but there are fields that will be strong regardless of the economy.  People will continue to get sick, money will have to be managed, and energy consumption will never end.  These are the fields to which you may look for stable careers.

There is always a need for good educators.  Regardless of what is happening in the economy, children will continue to go to school.  It is also a reasonable assumption that when the economy is bad many adults go back to school.  Those who are laid off often seek to further education or move into a new career field.  Someone has to be available to teach them.  Because of the continuing education of both children and adults a career in the field of education is a stable career choice.

Another stable industry is the healthcare field.  Regardless of the economy people continue to get sick.  Additionally, innovations in health care and an increasing demographic of senior citizens places greater demands on our health care services.  Health care administration is also a stable career field.

The demand for auditors and accountants is greater during a recession.  Business owners and individuals must monitor their expenses and income carefully.  Expertise as a bookkeeper or auditor will prove very valuable during a recession.

Energy consumption often decreases during a recession, but the need for energy is not going anywhere.  This applies to all utilities, including emerging fields of green energy.  Careers in utilities development, maintenance and administration provide stable career options.

With the demand in health care  high, there is a need for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.  As long as doctors continue to prescribe medications, there will be a need for qualified pharmacists.

The military is also a recession-proof career choice.  The military can offer long-term career options.  The military is always hiring, especially during times of war.  Soldiers are generally unaffected during a recession.

Security and law enforcement also remain strong during a recession.  Unfortunately, increase in crime correlates with economic recession.  This causes a need for greater security and law enforcement.
